The installation includes an imaginary interview with musician James Ferraro. Featuring audio samples of Ferraro’s work mixed with effected answers via speech synthesis, derived from various sources online. The piece will also be interactive, inviting the user to further remix and manipulate each audible answer using an electronic sampler.

“Denver artist & creative thinker Katie Taft has curated an exhibition for Abecedarian Gallery that focuses on one of her primary interests: stories about people. Taft invited 20 artists from throughout the US to select and interview a person of their choice, perhaps famous, locally famous or not at all famous, a person known beforehand or not. The style of interview and the questions asked were left entirely up to the invited artists.

The artists have made a creative representation of the information learned about that person. The exhibition includes a rich variety of media, styles and experience. In addition to the exhibition a publication including the interviews themselves will be produced and available.”

This was taken in the alley behind what is now sliding door gallery at 766 Santa Fe Drive in Denver.

I really miss this piece – sold it to a nice gentleman in boulder. It still remains one of my coolest inspirations to paint more more more.

Stephen Daniel Karpik (SDK) exhibits a new group of paintings that encompass primary influences in aesthetic composition with an emphasis on color, encrypted symbolism and wry humor.

Stephen Daniel Karpik is a self-taught and multidisciplinary artist with a focus on expressionist painting, experimental audio and chance poetry. A Denver resident for the past 10 years, Stephen has been active in the Denver arts community since arriving here. One of his most recent accomplishments was helping establish and manage a non-profit arts organization for kids. He is an avid cyclist with a love for all animals (especially ducks and dogs). Stephen joined Sliding Door in mid-2008.

In her new work Sylvia Jung continues to integrate drawing elements in ink and charcoal into her paintings. Strongly influenced by Abstract Expressionism in the intuitive process and the gestural quality, these works combine loose color patches and dithery marks into narratives about attempts at communication.

Sylvia Jung moved to Boulder from Berlin, Germany eight years ago. Sylvia has been an engineer as well as a housewife and mother, and recently redirected her professional interests to art. She completed her BFA in 2008 at CU Boulder and has begun showing her work in different venues in the Denver area including the Arvada Center and Spark Gallery. She became a member of Denver’s Sliding Door Gallery in 2008.

Gallery Hours: Friday and Saturday, 12 – 5PM, Collectors’ Friday 12 to 8 and by appointment.
